Recipes that are good and good for you! November 03, 2006 |
| Hi,
Here's your newest edition of Dr. Marcantel's Health and Wellness News. Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. If you find this information helpful, please help spread the word about the letter and our web site by forwarding this e-mail to a friend. ******************* We've added a new recipe page at DrMarcantel.com. Here are some quick and easy meals and snacks that are both good and good for you. Here's one to get you started: Breakfast Smoothie
Here's a great breakfast-on-the-run that you can prepare ahead of time. (Yields about 4-6 servings.) It's high in protein, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, calcium, and fiber.
1 container low-fat cottage cheese 1 cup frozen strawberries (thawed, include juice) 1/2 cup or so 1% milk (according to desired consistency) 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Splenda or stevia to taste
Combine all ingredients in blender except walnuts. Blend until smooth. Add walnuts. Keeps in refrigerator up to one week.
Head to the recipe page at our web site to find several more great food ideas.

Enzymes play an important role in aiding with food digestion, but that's not the only thing our bodies use these important proteins for. A new article by Dr. Marcantel called "Enzymes for Life" explains how systemic enzyme therapy can help ease chronic pain and boost your immune system.

Another new page contains information about the new diabetes support group meeting in Mesa. Visit the page to get the details about the group. The next meeting is November 8th at the offices of the Arizona Institute of Footcare Physicians at the crossroads of US 60 and Stapley. You can find directions to the meeting on our web site.

Dr. Marcantel's daughter Anna has supplied us with some new illustrations on several pages. Look for the "bug-eyed" cartoon characters on the recipe page, the pain management page, and others. Also, there's a new picture of Dr. Marcantel's family on the "Meet Dr. Marcantel" page--just in case you're curious ; ) ******************* The holiday season can be very tough on those who are struggling with their weight. Here are a couple of simple tricks to eat less when you sit down to those holiday meals: *Eat a handful of nuts about a half-hour before you sit down to your meal. This will help decrease your appetite for the main meal. *Drink a large glass of water just before beginning the meal. You'll feel "full" sooner and stop eating earlier. *Use a smaller plate. We know we should eat smaller portions, but it's hard to avoid filling up the plate with food. So, fill up your plate--just make sure you use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate! *Eat slowly. The slower you eat, the less you tend to eat. It takes time (about 1/2 hour) for your brain to get the message from your stomach that you have satisfied your hunger craving. Eating slowly allows your brain to catch up with what's going on in your stomach. ******************* Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a painful problem that can often be controlled with a proper diet and by avoiding "trigger" foods (including artificial sweeteners) that can set off symptoms. Read Dr. Marcantel's article about it to help avoid trouble this Thanksgiving. ******************* Why is Dr. Marcantel's weight loss plan different from all the others you've tried? For one thing, you will be monitored by a physician every step of the way. For another, this isn't another "diet." Dr. Marcantel will work with you to help you understand why certain foods affect you in certain ways, why specific combinations of foods can be good or bad for you, and even why you may be overeating to compensate for other problem areas in your life. Knowledge is power, and once you understand the "why" of weight management, you'll have the power to control your weight. Why wait? Give us a call now to start on the road to a healthier you! *******************
