Welcome to today’s video on the 5th chakra!
Do you experience problems with your throat, neck, or jaws? Perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with a thyroid problem? Let’s explore how these are related to the fifth chakra.
The fifth chakra is also called the “Throat” chakra. The spiritual truth associated with the fifth chakra is, “I speak my truth freely.”
The color that supports us to balance our 5th chakra is SKY BLUE. Wearing the color blue reminds us to honor ourselves by speaking our truth.
The throat chakra is connected to the heart chakra in that we speak from our heart of love.
When we have an open or balanced fifth chakra and the energy is flowing freely, we find it easy to say what we believe. We’re comfortable with self-expression because our words come from our authentic selves. They’re aligned with our true thoughts and feelings and they carry power in the world.
A powerful positive affirmation for opening the 5th chakra is, “I am safe to vocally express my truth in the world.”
A good example of opening up the fifth chakra on a global level is what is being referred to as the “me too” movement. So many people who have suppressed the abuse they’ve experienced – often in the workplace – are now being able to vocally express how these things affected them.
On the other hand, when we have a closed Throat chakra, we tend to think, “What I say doesn’t count. What I say isn’t important.” We tend to suppress what we’re feeling and we’re unable to speak up for ourselves. We might be afraid of retaliation or rejection or maybe we think what we say just doesn’t matter.
These feelings can often have origins in childhood. We may have been told to “hush, be quiet.” Our parents or other adults may have responded to our vocal expressions as, “that’s silly” or “that’s stupid.” We come to feel that what we say is not valued or supported.
An adult with a closed fifth chakra may exhibit passive-aggressive behavior. They may be the type who agrees with you to your face and then goes behind your back and tells others something totally different.
The fifth chakra is located in the throat. Corresponding body parts include the thyroid, the parathyroid, the mouth, teeth, ears, trachea, esophagus, neck, and jaw. Possible associated physical conditions can include thyroid or parathyroid conditions, dental problems, a raspy voice, or neck and jaw pain.
One of the most common forms of thyroid problems is a condition called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. This affects mostly women, and it’s actually an autoimmune disease in which the body produces antibodies that attack the healthy thyroid tissues in the body. It can be diagnosed with a blood test.
In my clinical practice I worked with many patients with Hashimoto’s disease. There are ways to treat it with medications, diet, and reducing stress. I believe opening up the 5th chakra is a key self-treatment people can use.
I’ve noticed something in talking with many patients who are diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. There’s a tendency to attack themselves with words. “I’m so stupid.” “What I said was dumb.” “I’m just terrible at that.”
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when we attack ourselves with words, we may find our bodies producing antibodies that attack our thyroid gland.
Now it’s time for our Children of the Chakras exercise. Have you been getting a little more comfortable with letting those children come into the light? Invite your child of the 5th chakra to speak to you.
On your worksheet, write down at least one significant thing about yourself that you’ve suppressed because you didn’t feel it was safe to vocalize it.
Now for some tips and tools to help open up your fifth chakra and get the energy moving.
SINGING is one of the best ways to activate and open the throat chakra. Maybe someone in the past criticized your singing and you’re self-conscious about it. You’ve probably heard the expression, “Dance like no one is watching.” Maybe it’s time for you to “sing like no one is listening!” Put on some of your favorite music and belt it out!
You can also practice speaking out loud words from your heart. If you’re not ready to speak publicly, try using your mirror exercise to express those thoughts and ideas you’ve been wanting to say. Honor yourself with your voice.
Affirm the truth of who you are with an “I AM” statement like, “I AM speaking my truth with freedom and confidence.”
You can also use essential oils to support your fifth chakra. Some good ones are peppermint, chamomile, and sage.
This is a JOURNEY. It’s all about PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION.
When you truly can love yourself JUST AS YOU ARE your inner healing begins, and that can manifest into the physical healing you desire.
I’ll see you next time as we explore the 6th chakra that governs your imagination and intellect.
